The Ramones were my favorite group growing up. Nothing could compare to seeing them play live. Take it, Dee Dee." "1-2-3-4!"
  • I was there!!

I don't remember much of that New Year's Eve, so I'm thankful it was recorded. I worked for Warner Bros. and a few us pulled for a US release. Hard to believe now, but back then radio wouldn't touch 'em and Sire/Warners didn't know what to do with them. The US release didn't happen (until the mid 90's). The import vinyl sold well so it should've had a proper release here. At least they're getting the respect they deserve, too bad most of them are not alive to see it. Anyhow, get this, it's the closet you'll get to being there.

This is such an endearing album. If you are a punk fan or enjoy the Ramons, do yourself a favor. Buy this album.

I would recommend this album to any Ramones fan. Or any punk rock fan. Yes,you are getting many of the same songs again, but the Ramones were great live, and this proves it. The only thing is that they didn't play "I Wanna Be Sedated", or if they did, they didn't include it on this album. Other than that, 5 star live performance.

there's nothing like listening to this entire live album in one sitting, its an experience! there's so much to enjoy here that you can't find in your typical Ramones studio album. Songs are played in record time, the rawness of johnnys down stroke guitar playing and dee dee's "1-2-3-4!'s" it all adds up to be the best live album ever. This is a must have for every Ramones fan, along with the first 4 albums, just DON'T BUY ANY COMPILATION CD'S! they're overated and lack the appreciation for what an album of theirs has to offer Oh and itunes you need to seriously put up the Ramones first full length album up here how dare you leave that out.

Onetwothreefour! The Ramones are famous (or sometimes infamous, depending) for their live performances. Mainly because they had the chance to play as loud as possible, but also because they sped their songs up immensely. Joey quickly speeds through his lyrics with Johnny's intense, (extremely) fast-paced guitar licks to back him up. There is not a single song on this live album that is over 2:54. In fact, most of the songs on here are less than two minutes. They had a tendancy to shave about twenty to thirty seconds off their live versions of songs. Okay, so every live album has pros and cons. Frampton Comes Alive! had the famous talk box, but had some kind of overly sentimental love ballads on there, which was kind of unnecessary. 1969: The Velvet Underground Live had some good improvisations, but Lou Reed's muttering got kind of old. The main pro of this live album is that all of the songs are truly great moments in punk rock history, and all are essential listening. However, sometimes Joey's singing turns into almost gasping, and sometimes you can't understand what's being said (like most punk) partly because of Johnny's wicked guitar, and partly because the songs are sped up. Still, It's Alive (much like lots of live albums) isn't without its great moments. These include Joey's chants of "Hey! Ho! Let's Go!" during "Blitzkrieg Bop" and of "Gabba Gabba Hey!" during "Pinhead." There are also some great live versions of "California Sun," "Glad to See You Go," and "Oh Oh I Love Her So." (All highlights from Leave Home) About a week later, The Ramones ended up performing the exact same set (Save for an absence of "Judy Is a Punk"), which is documented by the less-than-adequate NYC 1978. Get this one instead of NYC 1978, for this is really the band's greatest live achievements. Recommended Tracks: "Blitzkrieg Bop" "Sheena Is a Punk" "California Sun" "Pinhead"
  • By far the best live album ever

This catches the Ramones at thier best with thier best line up. Marky was a good drummer - but Tommy catches the pure punk energy better, simply because he's NOT as good a drummer. When a band can launch into the next song with only Dee Dee yelling, "1-2-3-4!" for a respite song after song, after song, after song... Well hell, you're at a Ramones concert. So put down that joint all you "Frampton Comes Alive" lovers - a Ramones live album kicks your butt!
