  • Funkiest White guys!

It's weird that it took The New Mastersounds 5 years to release an album based off these awesome funky jazz songs. This band is sooooo funky, where they lack originality (a lot of funk / jazz sounds the same) they completely make up for it in guitar and organ riffs & solos. If you enjoy amazing lead jazz guitar with the psychedelic flair, this is a great find!

One reviewer said that you can just go listen to the Meters if you want this sound, but not the case. If you are into funk/jazz these guys have a cool sound. And yes they are obviously influenced by the Meters, but also by Hendrix, Grant Green, Jimmy McGriff and others. He also suggests that they are from New Orleans, which couldn't be further from the correct geographical location. They are from the UK and are part of the underground funk scene there. If you have the mindset that you can get everything you want from a certain sound by listening to 1 band who plays it, then you are selling yourself short on some great music. Got a chance to see these guys at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago and they are worth catching live. Eddie Roberts is an amazing guitar player.

These guys are great. I saw them at Langerado and they sure blew my mind. They put a new twist on a genre that is perfect to start with. With the heavy organ lines to the stompin' percussion rhythms, and all the notes between this album is a winner. The live album is one up as it shows what capabilities they have not just in the studio, but live feeding off the energy of the audience.
