Reviews

  • Almost Perfect Melodic Rock Album

    5
    By Greg T Carpenter
Tracks 1-5 are absolutely perfect melodic rock songs. "Seventh Sign" suffers from a weak chorus, but the band immediately fires on all cylinders again with the title track, a progressive-leaning number. "Bad Blood" sees the band return to the catchy melodic rock of the first 5 tracks but is not as good. "Homeland" is a blusy ballad, following the the pop ballad "I'll Cry For You" earlier in the album. "Got Your Mind In The Gutter" is the third filler track (along with "Bad Blood" and "Seventh Sign), but "Till My Heart Beats Down Your Door" erases the bad taste of "Bad Blood." "Girl From Lebanon" closes the album with a snarling rocker. 9 of the 12 tracks on this release are flawless songs, so I can forgive the 3 mis-steps. Back in the 80's, 9-10 songs were all you got on an album anyway. It's definitely Europes best album. What's even scarier is that there were some songs written during this time that were as catchy but didn't make it onto an album ("Breaking Free" and "Long Time Comin'").

yes these guys were big in the 80s and yes they had some awesome music videos...their actual music destroys most of the hair bands of the time. i would put these guys along with tesla as 2 of the best from genre even though they were better than that. speaking of this album in particular, homeland, all or nothing, and prisoners in paradise are the best tracks.

Their songs are the second closest thing to perfect... it's just that you'll see that some lyrics and melodys can be repetative and have no new flavor to them.

I love this album alot. It really shows what Europe is all about, besides The Final Countdown!! If you love the 80's, I would so get this album. You will not regret it!!
  • The end of an Era

80's hair pop metal. On it's way out around 1991, but there was still bands trying to hol don out there. This album is a sample of one of the last hurrah's (if you will) for this genre. Catchy hooks, melodic vocals, shredding guitars...all in all a solid representation of a music form that will never truly die, but will never be the same as it was 20 years ago
