he played a lunchtime concert at the cleveland agora in support of this album...i will never forget it. this is maybe his happiest most positive album, the opposite of 'berlin'...

This album was a favorite of mine at the time of it's initial release. Probably the most 'listenable,' and definitely the most upbeat item in the catalog. Not his best work by far, but an interesting detour after the harrowingly brilliant Blue Mask (with Street Hassle and Berlin, the best thing he ever did for my money). He was very much in charge of the execution hre- a development that really began with Street Hassle. He was also in a positive place in his own life, and that's what comes across- that's the "New Senstation" he's referring to. Very much an 80's album (but one that works as opposed to the egregious "Mistrial"). It's light, at times trite, but always enjoyable. He even had a minor hit with the wonderful "I Love You Suzanne" (a nice return to his beloved 3-chord R+R form). It's not all powder light though- "Fly Into The Sun" has gospel underpinnings, "What Becomes a Legend Most" is sort of a Factory-era take on Sunset Boulevard. But the title track is pure celebration, riding a motorik groove down the freeway in Lou's sidecar. Not a bad place to start if you're interested in the master's later work.
  • Lou's Passing

When I heard that Lou Reed passed away on Sunday, I reached back into time and started to play classic Reed songs...it was then that I stumbled back to this album. Probably my favorite Reed album. Every song stands on its own. It was fresh in 1984 and it is fresh today in 2013. This is a timeless album. Buy it. Play it. Love it.

This CD is great from beginning to end. These days you can't put a CD on and let it play through, but there is no filler here.

Ok, there's a few dated songs here, notably the ones about video games, but Lou is having fun here, and he sounds very inspired. I LOVE YOU, SUZANNE is a masterpiece in itself, one of the catchiest songs I have ever heard, it makes you smile every time you hear it....and the title track has some of Lou's best lyrics ever....

A great Lou Reed album (and underrated/underappreciated too). I agree with the reviewer. Lou is in a rare upbeat mood throughout, very positive. In this respect it is an aptly titled album. Check this line out: 'It's easy enough to tell what is wrong but that's not what I want to hear all night long Some people are like human tuinols' No chance of Lou being a one either. Even the potentially negative 'What Becomes a Legend Most' ends with the line 'Tonight it's you.' Play the whole album everytime, because Every_song is good. They just kind of sink in 'cause they're perfectly arranged, well recorded, and very catchy with uber_cool_lyrics as only Lou can write them. Get it. It's a cool album.
  • A great, great record

A bargain at twice the price. If life ever seems tired and same-old, slap this on your speakers for a reminder that there's always something new out there to embrace. "Suzanne" is an AOR masterpiece, but the title cut seals the deal. Without a doubt, one of my all-time fave discs.

It's a different take for Lou, but every track is a gem. I can't call it the definitive "Lou Reed Album", but I can tell you it's one of heck of a ride.

this is lou reed's finest album along w/ the classic/live 'rock & roll animal' - everything he's done since is so self-indulgent & non-musical, i can't listen to it, i'll never forget my letdown when i got his follow-up 'new york'. but this one i have to rank in my top ten of all-time favorite albums, prob even top five - every song is a gem thru & thru. unfortunately, he's been wanking in public ever since w/ every release. don't just pick a song or two here, pull down the whole lp, you won't be sorry.
