  • Album of 2015 Contender for sure

I was looking forward to this release so much that by the time I finally heard it I was pretty sure I'd set myself up for disappointment. This was absolutely not the case. I hear entire new worlds in the songs on Lantern... The album is positively writhing with vital, beautiful glimpses into the future of electronic music, dance & hip-hop. “Scud Books” is the odds-on song of the year: an explosion of energy that recalls musical visionaries as varied as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, M83 and Kanye West. In a year filled with sophisticated "highbrow" releases by the likes of Jim O'Rourke, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Eric Holm & Nosaj Thing, it's insanely gratifying to have a hip-hop producer and GOOD music disciple standing right alongside these brilliant artists. Lantern is impossible to deny. Hudson Mohawke has arrived.

The end of the album really saved it for me. Where was that in the rest?

Indian Steps, Kettles and Resistance ft Jhené Aiko are the best three. I love these three songs. Amazing job Ross.

This is absolute garbage. The beats are good don't get me wrong, but it's almost like the artist had absolutely no idea what good electronic music sounds like. This is just background music festival music, a stage I'd walk by on my way to a better artist. The first song is an incomprehensible wash of sonic garbage. The song 'Ryderz' -almost- saved this album, but still didn't hit the mark. What happened while he was making Warriors? It just sounds like he got lazy with it. 1/5 stars for trying. If I could give it 0 I would. Try again next year and try making something original for once.
  • not TNGHT, but still daring

Even though it does not have the same hip hop feel as in his TNGHT record, the album has a lot to love. Best Songs: Very First Breath, Ryderz, Scud Books, Deepspace, System Best Drop: System Catchiest Song: Very First Breath

'Lantern' might as well go down as one of my top 10 releases of 2015. This album is transcendent and incredibly positive. “Scud Books” is INSANE, while “Warriors” is the anthem of the year. Keep it up HudMo!
