I love Carpenter's film scores, and these "Lost Scores" are amazing. "Night" is my favorite track, but the entire album makes for great listening for when I want to lie in bed quietly and really listen or for commuting late at night after leaving work.

his movies have alaways entertained me. HOWEVER, his music has been a background soundtrack for a great portion of my life. My first exposure to his work was "Escape from New York" back in 1982, since then i have been a Carpenter addict. "Escape" was the beginning of my obsession with his musical work. "They Live","Prince of darkness", "Mouth of Madness' , "Big Trouble in little china", "Vampires", "Ghosts of Mars"...etc. when i became aware that Mr. Carepenter had produced a "themes" collection devoid of time and coorparte restrictions i nearly lost my mind until i obtained a copy of his work. I WAS NOT disappointed in the slightest. Thank you Mr. Carpenter, I absoluely LOVE this Collection. PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE...dont allow too much time to pass before providing this fan another collection of your work.

Ok so there was a brief number of years that John Carpenter directed a few undeniably classic films, along with some surprising memorable and effective scores. But the music worked because they so perfectly fit the late 70’s, early 80’s tone balanced with the cool B movie vibe the movies evoked. Carpenter was far from the Cliff Martinez of his time, but who is to say he did not inspire Martinez, and others, in some way (see Drive). That being said I had hoped Carpenter would have simply given a fun trip down memory lane and pulled some unused tracks from those old films of his. Alas only NIGHT and VORTEX hit that mark while the other tracks are his attempt at showing his range which end up only reminding us of his musical limitations. Oh well, no harm, no foul, since it did make me go back and listen to his title tracks form PRECINCT 13, ESCAPE FROM NY, and HALLOWEEN which will always stand the test of time.

The Master returns in top form! My only complaint: what's with these LAME remixes tagged on at the end of the album. I listened to all the Carpenter originals which blended seamlessly the first listen through, but then I had to skip over these terrible remixes the first time because they were so grating on the ears. Do yourself a favor and consider the album over after track 9.

As described by Mr. Carpenter himself, each song could be a soundtrack to a new film of his. No duds in here, each hits the ground running and has his signature sound. Infinitely relistenable, any fan of his work or of electronic music will enjoy this. What’s amazing is that his soundtracks have been copied and emulated in much of the new synthwave movement, and this is a master class in that same sound.
