So far ahead of its time - a true masterpiece. My dad introduced me to Kraftwerk as a child and used to play the title track for me (along with their song "Tanzmusik") and listening to it brings back those memories. The passage beginning at 3:20 in particular can bring me to tears. This stuff set the stage for so much eletronic music to follow and shows how music made with machines can be truly human and emotional.

Many will sight "Oscillations" by Silver Apples or "Popcorn" by Gershon Kingsley as the first electronic songs, along with experimental artists like Raymond Scott of the 1940s-60s and others dating back to the 1920s. However, IMHO Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" is the first electronic song with a truly danceable bassline resembling modern electronic dance music. Even as a millenial in 2018, I can just trance out to this while flying down the interstate.

Why do I have to purchase the entire album to get the original autobahn song? Cash grab city.

So I'm literally ten years old, and my mother has to drive me to our neighborhood record store, where I place a special order for Kraftwerk's Autobahn. I would sit and listen to the album for hours, not really understanding the groundbreaking technology being used in 1974. I still own the original album and am sad it's not represented here, but the remastered version, while lacking the original artwork, seems to be true to the actual recording. The other cuts were pretty creepy to a 10 year old, but Autobahn was and still is a seminal recording in the evolution of electronic music. Happy to see that their music survives today for generations to come who can look back in awe at what music used to sound like prior to sampling and laptops.

Back in the early 1980's there was a Sunday night show called, "For Headphones Only" on 95X FM. The DJ played Autobahn. It was awesome. When I was stationed in Germany, I played this song on one of the autobahns while cruising in my BMW. It was cool. JDSB3

Being nearly 40 years old, I had never heard of this group growing up. It was one of my young friends who is college aged who introduced me to this group....on vinyl no less, haha! His dad had been listening to the group since high school in the late 70's and my young friend grew up listening to Kraftwerk. SO today after getting the hook from the first song trapped in my head, I dowloaded it. Autobahn will be in heavy rotation on my iPod the next few weeks!
