Here I am, Christmas Day, listening to music thats powerful enough to pry me away from friends and family and make me write this review. This band (when in full swing) had a stardom capability to equal the Beatles or Led Zeppelin, but they never played that card. Their music along with Gotye's, is and will remain to be my favorite- well done Kris, Tim, and Wally. Music that really reaches into someone's soul.
  • Redefining the term Power Trio

When I think of a power trio, I think of loud guitars, simple bass lines and barely decent drumming. The Basics completely redefine the term. The complexity of their arrangements and use of vocal harmonies is unlike any trio around today. Without being overly complex, the band is able to maintain a very unique sound to every individual song. There are no throwaway "album tracks" to be found here. Each song is so different, perhaps due in part to the multiple lead singers. With some songs very upbeat and fun and other songs strongly emotional, such as "With This Ship", this album is a great representation of the diversity of material The Basics have had over their ten years. Perhaps one of the best kept secrets in music, this band deserves much more recognition! Some songs can transport you back to another era, and others to another continent. This album is an excellent representation of The Basics, and is an excellent addition to any music library.
