Expect any album of covers/tributes to wreak negative reviews from sore purists who can't stand to hear their favorite artists covered. The truth about Kindred Spirits is that it is by far, far the best cover album of the genre ever released, and clearly Ronny Moorings spent considerable time perfecting the soundscape. Covering Depeche Mode, NIN, Siouxsie, and Joy Division all on one album? Clearly it's a very personal album for Ronny as well as a goth clubkid's wet dream. And as an old 80s era Xymoxhead like myself, it is surprising (but welcoming) to hear Ronny reach back to his New Wave roots after distancing himself from it for so long. Lets hope this leads to a reunion tour with Pieter, Anka, and Frank soon. Pieter has been releasing really good stuff lately too. My favorite tracks are the Joy Division and Depeche Mode covers that - dare I say - are better than the originals. But really you should download the whole thing. Ronny Moorings is so hugely underrated, I hope he keeps making music for a long time. It's rare you find an artist whose tastes are 99% the same as yours.

I really love this CD. I felt like this might be a very personal CD for Ronnie, the way he took the songs as WE know them and went in and made them his own. They definitely have the Xymox sound. And I love that. I would highly recommend this music to all Clan of Xymox fans and everyone else that wants good music.

Does not meet my expectations at all. They're much better than this. They really should just stick to writing original music, so if the Clan reads this "please don't do cover song again!!!". Some of these have been covered so many times already by other band it's almost embarrassing to see it listed at all. I mean "Heroes" was done like 100 times already. Not to mention "Blue Monday" a song I used to enjoy listening to but now very much bored with because of all the covers. It's a bit of a shame because Clan of Xymox is one of my faves. I tried, I really wanted to like this but I'm not feeling this at all. I gave it 2 stars for "A Forest". "Alice" was okay but you might as well just listen to the original Sisters of Mercy version which is better. Another "DON'T" to keep in mind here for all goth musicians out there, never attempt to cover Sisters of Mercy, it's near impossible to do better or even come close.
