Reviews

  • Wow.

Wow, how are record companies even going to let him PRODUCE anymore, if they hear this? And there I was, thinking Todd was getting back on the right track after some quality songwriting (remember that, Todd?) in Liars and Arena. *sigh*
  • Todd is still great.

iI have been a long time fan of todd, but not as devoted as some. I don't collect every album. just have one, hermit of mink hollow, I have to say this album is great ! Fits great with the time. Music is very upbeat and sometimes mellow. Pleanty of synths. Song with meaning. I was objective at first but decided to buy it, and I can't stop listening to it. Won't be surprised is some songs will make the top 20's. Sure there are song by other artists, but todd colaberated with them, so their actually his. Hince re production. If you don't know todd rundgren, you would think it was a new artist.
  • Really fun and modern sounding

Personally I love this record, and it's a great concept-covering songs from lp's he produced...yes it's heavy on synths and drum machines but it's very entertaining, and he even makes songs that were already perfect like 'i can't take it' by cheap trick sound great....interesting take on new york dolls 'personality crisis'....the tubes 'prime time' is wonderful....and of course Todd's voice sounds amazing as ever.

I've been a Todd Rundgren fan for 33 years. I prefer guitar driven rock, but I also enjoy, and am grateful for, the variety of music that Todd creates. With the exception of the first three tracks, I am enjoying this release more with each listen. I listened to the original artist versions and then Todd's. It gave me a greater appreciation for both versions; Todd picked some great songs. Stand outs include; Out Of My Mind, I Can't Take It, Dear God, Is It A Star, and Chasing you Ghost, Nothing To Lose and Walk Like A Man (real drums would really improve this one... I guess I'll have to wait for the tour).
  • No No No. A little more humanity.

Long time Todd is God devotee. I was excited about the concept, but this is a disappontment. Way to heavy on the synthesizer and drum machine. Have to agree with other reviews. Coulda been better.

Give it several listens. The songs get in your head after a few listens. Also, interesting divergences from the originals.

What a shame. The most talented guy in music just destroys his credibility with this piece of crap. Up until now, I was ALL IN with Todd. This is the first time I stepped back and said "huh?". I know his next venture will be worth it, this is just a bad detour!
  • This could have worked.

I must say I was intrigued by the premis of this cd. Setting songs he's produced to dance beats could have been very interesting. I must admit that of the 15 tracks here I feel that about 4 or 5 worked. Out of My Mind, Chasing Your Ghost, Everything, Take It All and most of Nothing To Lose (take out the extra "realize") are songs that worked for me. I certainly have no problem with the autotune if used sparingly but it is so overused that it takes some of the enjoyment of what could be ok songs. It's almost like he was trying to jam every new hip production trick into every song and it comes off more annoying than cool. I'm no brainwashed fan and I may not be as "learned" as some but as a true fan for 30 plus years, I do find some redeeming qualities in some of these tracks. I give it two stars because it could have been a lot better and I can't help but wonder what this would sound like if it was recorded during his Liars recording sessions. I think that type of sound would have done these songs justice. No need to retire as some would suggest, your last two original cds are proof of that. Keep on keepin' on and can't wait to see you and the original Utopia on the road this November.
