In short it's great. It is not Bat Out of Hell in any way all but a very 1980s album where the bombast production and technology work. Most 80's albums don't have any "meat" to their sound (pun intended) but this one has the guitars up-front and they are very sharp and powerful. Great writing also. A different kind of album that I would reccommend after getting the two Bat out of hells (no, the 3 bat is not a must have). Listen to the sound samples for the "sound" but get the CD for the "songs"-they are in there.

Meat Loaf has been on my playlist since he came out with "Bat out of Hell", but some of these albums in between missed the local music stores. Thanks to iTunes, I am now able to complete his works in my collection. I've been looking for this one for a while now. How did I let it pass me by back in the 80's? It's a great album and that's the bottom line. No, it isn't one of the 3 Bats, but then it isn't supposed to be. It is time people recognized that Meat is the singer, not the writer of most of his works, so enjoy the VOICE. He's done a great variety of good music; why restrict yourself to only one corner of his discography when there is so much more. I highly recommend you pick this gem up. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
  • Not Classic Meatloaf

Although this is not a bad album it is not a MEATLOAF album. At least, not as most of his biggest fans know it. It seems that Meatloaf tried to be something that he is not and that is an 80's pop singer. His voice is still great and I'm not saying that this effort isn't worth having but if you are a fan of his more anthemic over-the-top music then this is not your album. Before it sounds like I'm panning this collection let me say that I think Rock and Roll Hero is a real lost classic. If you want real proof of the 80's pop influence then give a listen to Special Girl.

This album endears itself to you quickly and is Meatloaf's softest contribution to the rock world, but don't let that fool ya. Execution Day is a powerful rock masterpiece. You WILL want this song on your ipod! Half the album can be described as sensual and luring, while the rest rocks the house. This "middle" album between the Bats is satisfying, pertinent and fulfilling. You won't find Bat Outta Hell here, but you will find artistic, stimulating, emotion laden AOR that proves Meat Loaf is multi-dimensional and exciting. This made my 1986 and still captivates the imagination!
