Laura Branigan's voice was incomparable. You never confused her for another singer- whether she was going soft on a ballad or hard on a rock song, it was Laura and it was wonderful to hear such raw talent. This was the 80s, so unless you could actually sing, you couldn't make a record. Most of today's popular female singles would sound like garbage without all of the digital effects, because they simply don't have the raw talent. I bought this album on cassette, because of the smash international hit, "Self Control," where Branigan sings with unusual restraint, only to burst out later. It's a magical song by any standard and there aren't any bad songs here at all. For a taste of Laura at her perhaps most powerful, it can't be beat. Miss you, LB.
