Reviews

  • This is their best album

I’d put this just above Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll as their best album. The mixing is sort of loud but there are many standouts with complementary songs that are solid. Great balance of hard charging songs and slower ballads. Under My Thumb is a fantastic Rolling Stones cover. Songs that are a must listen: Don’t Drag Me Down I Was Wrong (big radio hit) Through These Eyes Gotta Know The Rules

As great as Social D's first 4 albums are (and they are going to be loved for ages to come) this is my personal favorite. It's a triumph and the last great album Ness ever bled out. You can discount the review above completely. This album fits snugly into the bands cannon and still amages to distinguish itself as the most heavy and mosh friendly album they have offered (some might argue Mommy's little Monster). It's the Social D album I listen to most.

I don't know what record the so-called critics were listening to, but this record has held up just fine. You can almost feel the spit flying as Mike snarls out Down on the World Again. Through These Eyes is one of the finest SD and punk songs ever. No good hooks? Pleasure Seeker has a monster. This is a mighty fine record, one of those rare albums where the band is in total sync and takes the music to a different level. If this record is "misguided,", I'll take a dozen more.

Saw these guys open for Sonic Youth who opened for Neil Young & Crazy Horse in the 90s. Social D blew the roof off the RPI Field House. This album is a great intro to the band in that it's as close as they come to well-produced and accessible, but it's still a great album to crank up with real speakers - not those pathetic, plastic computer mini-me speakers. "Dear Lover" is my favorite, especially with the slow intro that bursts into double-time as Ness' vocals tear through the air. If you're not hooked by the first four songs, Social D. ain't for you. Nothing wrong with worshipping the Cappuccino Kid or slickly produced crooners; that music has it's place for those who listen to relax. This is drive fast, head bangin', get yer ya-ya's out music to cut loose with...enjoy.
