This recording changed my life when it came out—I was playing in the stage band in high school and absorbing all kinds of music.
Hard to say that it's one of my favorite recordings because of the era, or because it's a great record straight up.
At any rate, peerless players on this session: Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock (makes you wonder why Miles didn't just go ahead and sit in), along with Harvey Mason and Graham Lear.
Hate to say this, but when I think of what Santana is like today, I wistfully recall excursions like this or Borboleta.
