If you were fortunate enough to see the show...you will be able to pick up nuances that you may have missed the first time around. And if you missed it...sit back and enjoy, you won’t regret it. I couldn’t be more thrilled that they released a cast recording! Each and every person was so perfectly cast. This is a brilliant recording with such a great message. Thanks George, I’ll be visiting this park frequently.

Overall, the singing is vast improved from the Original Recording. While, Jake Gyllenhall is no Mandy Patinkin, he holds his own in this role and makes it new. The ensemble (and this truly is an ensemble show) is strong. And Annaleigh Ashford's portrayal of Dot adds a depth to the character that Bernadette Peters always lacked. Particularly, it is Ashford who makes this production and recording special. Her voice is expressive, warm, and versatile - and she shines. So very excited that they immortalized this production! Also, this musical happens to feature the very best line in all of musical theater, in my opinion: "The choice may have been mistaken, / the choosing was not."

Okay, while nothing can beat the original recording from ‘84, this is one of the best musical recordings ever captured! The mixing of the orchestra is absolutely stunning. I’ve never heard this score sound better. So lush and full and romantic. There are endless nuances to discover in this recording. I cannot get enough! Do yourself a favor and listen immediately!

The short-run Broadway performance was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we were privileged to see. Jake was amazing and Anna Leigh is, well, superlative. A welcome refresh to the classic original featuring Mandy and Bernadette. The rest of the cast was (is) very strong. The dynamic fully tangible in this recording. Wishing for a video to complement the audio but don't think it's in the cards, alas. Hats off to Jake for taking this on - truly special.

Like so many others, I came to the show when it was televised 30 years ago. I was hooked. Really hooked. So, when the London revival came to Broadway I made sure not to miss it. Ugh. What a letdown. Seeing Jake and Analeigh, however, took me back to the magic of the first time I saw the show. I was incredibly fortunate to catch the short run and we are all fortunate that the decision was made to record the cast album. Eligible or not, I consider this revival this year’s Tony winner.
