Wow, what a great album! This album is a thrill from beginning to end. Rich's skill is absolutely amazing, and he is flawless. His band is just as good: able to keep up with his rhythm takes some serious skill. This album has a high-energy big band sound, with some rock and fusion sounds mixed in. Of course, the hits are "Nuttville" and "Time Check", but I also really like "Kilimanjaro Cookout" and "Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters" for their more mellow, jazz-fusion sound. Get this album today!!

By the time I picked up this album in 1974, after I saw Buddy on Johnny Carson Tonight Show talking about this, I was 15 years old and already owned a small collection of Buddy Rich albums. I cannot tell you how elated I was when I bought this album and travelling home with it tucked under my arm. I couldn't wait to play it, learn the tunes and play my drums to it! When I got it home and played it on the stereo, I loved it. It was GREAT. Then I heard the Don Menza tune Time Check and I fell on the floor.I had never heard a band cook this hard in my life! Years later I heard Louie Bellson's band do this tune also and it was great...but I will never forget the awesome feeling I got when I first heard Buddy and the Band on this record. It still swings like mad! I miss Buddy Rich terribly!

I am a huge fan of big band jazz, so I obviously love the Buddy Rich stuff. This is one of the best albums I own by him, but aren't they all? Also check out Swingin' New Big Band, Mercy Mercy and Big Swing Face if you like this. Buddy Rich is teh krazy drum god
