Hank Jr. just emotes on every song here. IT is not the rowdy country/country rock of his future. Their are country ballads tinged with blues. The musicianship behind Hank is excellent, especially the pedal steel of Ralph Mooney on Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound. The pace does pick up for "White Lightnin'" I found myself singing along for every song! Enjoy this now classic "country" album.

This is as good as Bocephus gets. Before all the grandstanding and chest pumping Hank Jr made some of the best country music there has ever been. Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound is his masterpiece. I will take this album first anytime. Along with Waylon Jennings' Dreaming My Dreams, this album represents the sound I wanted to hear in country music. To the point lyrics, deceptively simple chord progressions, and a mood that captures every smoke filled bar and regret filled morning. It doesn't get any better than Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound. Buy it today. Thanks Hank.
