I just read that he passed away today, June 7th, 2011 @ 59 years of age. He was an outstanding songwriter and vocalist. A shame, as we also lost Paul Davis not too long ago. These are orginals. Copyright does not indicate year the song came out as one individual below thought. The copyright is likely the year Rhino produced the CD.

This is the original, unlike another version on here that I did not notice said "Lonely Boy-Best of the 70's Original Artists re-recordings". Now don't get me wrong it is still him, but sounds nothing like this version which is the one I wanted. Still worth the $1.98 I spent. Love this song it brings back so many memories of growing up in the 1970's!

Wow, people should do their research before they go spouting off that these are re-recordings. These are original recordings. Perfect Pop Music!
  • Re-recordings of "Lonely Boy" and the original

The version of "Lonely Boy" on THIS album is the original. The re-recorded version of "Lonely Boy" appears on the compilation "70's Memories" and Madacy Special Products' "Best of the 70s" (both of which are on iTunes). Avoid downloading "Lonely Boy" from those two sources if you want the original!
  • Definitely NOT a re-recording!

I downloaded "Lonely Boy", and can assure all of you that this is the original 1976 version. I compared it to my 45 rpm single, and couldn't find any differences. Now mind you, there are (unfortunately) re-recorded versions out there! I found them on iTunes, and this recording sounds nothing like the inferior re-recordings! In most cases, just listening to the sound samples will tell you if a recording is original or not; very rarely I've had to listen to a sample several times to determine if it was original or a remake. But make no mistake; they're out there, and iTunes needs to do a better job distinguishing between those and the originals.
