A refreshing break from the authority-worshipping, flag-sucking, right-wing nonsense that has plagued corporate country for decades. Sounds like a modern Woody Guthrie.

I don't love every song, but they all point to very stong topics. The last two songs are phenomenal.

I listened to the Ballad of Trayvon Martin. Seriously?

Agree or not, his songs will make you think. Perhaps even beyond your preconceived notions of the song content or subject matter. Great music from an equally great man.
  • Amazing!!

I love Americana/Texas music. I have never written a review on ITunes, but this album is so outstanding that I had to add my two cents. Thank you for writing such powerful (and daring) songs!!

Seriously? Will I was a huge Hoge fan but this and illegal line are just so dumb, lazy, ill-informed and white-guitly I don't trust your instincts anymore. The thing with the blues is wisdom. Both of these songs are so fundamentally lacking in it I now question what I ever saw in you in the first place. The blues is about the truth even if it's hard to hear - what you've done is take propagandist talking points and embarrass yourself with them. God this is such a shame. I'm sorry but I'm done paying for your music.
  • Powerful and yes, GUTSY!!

Really Micktheknife?? So I guy from Tennessee whose fan base is undoubtably made up of mostly conservatives (if not EXTREME conservatives) would be gutsy to sing songs about their core beliefs? Yeah that makes a lot of since. Go back to watching FOX News bud.
  • the Me-Too Chorus

Echoing the ideology from Hollywood, the Elite Media and pop culture in protest music is not gutsy, it's the Me-Too Chorus. There's an endless list of "brave" artists who wear the same badge of honor. Sure he'll lose fans who disagree but he'll pick up many others who don't. Musically it's consistent with what he's been doing on his other works. This effort is far from daring. Gutsy is a pro-conservative, Christian, personal responsibility protest album.

I have been listening to this album and can't figure out what I think of it. I guess I'll keep listening.
  • Risky but amazing

Love every song! Took guts to make a record like this and I hope it's a huge success!
