  • Oh that voice

How big was the rock I'd been under to not know Tracey had released this album. Listening to it is like taking a trip down memory lane of my most memorable times during the 80's and 90's. Great to hear new material from the voice that has kept me company for over 25 years...thank you Tracey!
  • perfect marriage of tracey's talent for writing/singing and ben's label support

...i love tracey's "out of the woods" CD, but this CD seems to go back to earlier roots. it reminds me of albums like "the language of love", "amplified heart", etc. - the 90's EBTG music that was so compelling. i'm glad tracey is mixing it up - from the electronica on OOTW to this album's earlier roots. tracey has one of the best voices today - and is not appreciated in the US, which is a sad statement. i'm also glad she is striking out alone and ben is using his label for distribution in the UK. if you liked EBTG's earlier style, the maturity of lyrics and melody along with her incredible voice is wonderful. i must admit i miss ben's singing out of nostalgia, but tracey can hold her own just fine, and she does. i love the album cover, as well - those of us with children can appreciate the crayon faces!

Few artists can really make your soul wrench with emotion and become addicted to their sounds. Tracey Thorn is one such. Whether it's with her hubby Ben Watt in Everything But The Girl, or by herself, she's flawless in her vocal delivery. Listen to Why Does The Wind or the eerie Kentish Town and you'll know why !

I never write reviews, but I felt the need to defend this offering. I too was a little disappointed at first, but this CD sneaks up on you. It is subtle, deep and thoughtful... Good for you Tracey for tackling, divorce, getting older and other difficult topics!

this album is accessible without being easy. for those of us who've been following tracey for quite some time, the strength of her voice is a given. her work with massive attack and ebtg will live on forever as classic. *out of the woods* was an exciting mix of rhythms; fans like me, who like to take their problems to the dancefloor, were heartened by this mix, knowing that much of the pre-*missing* ebtg catalogue is less than remix ready. i was worried that there would be less beats this time around, and there are -- but sometimes you have to meet the artist where she is, not where you want her to be. this doesn't mean that *love and its opposite* can't be critiqued harshly, and certainly people have a right to their feelings. still, it's hard for me not to recognize the lyrical genius and heartbreaking construction of this album. well done.

  • What Happened? Music and its Opposite?

" Out of the woods " had this slow melodies but also nicely composed 80s electronic tunes and some of that vitality of Everything But the Girl . this albums is quite boring and depressing by only having the topic of divorce , the only song that has somehow a uniqueness is " Why Does the wind " witch is available for free on her website , Im very dissapointed , I adore "Out of the woods " such a lovely voice combined with semi dance beats , this is waste.
