  • Terrific soundtrack and movie.

I really enjoyed this movie, but I must disclose that I never read the graphic novel. I know they changed a few things for the film, but definitely, the Director's Cut is the one to watch. As far as the music from the trailers as some have asked: Trailer 1: Smashing Pumpkins, "The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning" from the album "Rarities and B-Sides." Trailer 2 (iTunes): Muse, "Take a Bow" from the album "Black Holes and Revelations."
  • Good music, but one question..

I thought this soundtrack was very well suited for the movie and I really liked the tracks Requiem, I Love You and Silk Spectre. Though I dont usually enjoy soundtracks I found this one to be quite enjoyable and filled with interesting and varying sounds and I would recommend it. I only have one question..what is the song that plays in the background of the Watchmen commercial?

but Tyler Bates did not compose this music, he should watchout with not acknowledging the real composers who actually wrote the music...Mozart and Philip Glass for example.
  • Adequate for background music

Firstly, anyone who can be successful at scoring a movie has talent. It is a difficult task. So I gave Bates two stars just for showing up. But, the first cut is basically just a "leitmotiv" version of Danny Elfman's Batman thematic material. Nothing original here. The entire selection of music is basically rehashed comic book hero movie music from other movies. And, it doesn't really qualify in my opinion as a full score. (I've been in the music business for over 46 years). It doesn't have the sweeping quality of many of the scores found in today's movies but it is more utilized only to frame a particular scene with no continuity or relationship to other elements of the score. I'm sorry to be so critical, but I think when you listen to Elfman, Zimmer, Goldsmith, and others who dominate movie scoring today and given all of the hype of this move, the score should have been more memorable. Take the test - if you have seen the movie can you remember any of the music well enough to hum a little in the car on the way home from the theater?
  • Tyler Bates gets ****

Mozart is public domain. I would imagine that Mozart is given credit . This soundtrack is pretty darn good and goes with the movie perfectly. Four stars for sure**** even five. The music totally works with the movie. Seems to be a lot of talk about Tyler Bates...sound like alot of jealously out there. This album has a 4 1/2 star rating and imo is deserving of it.

Much like the director, the soundtrack lacks vision and originality. 100% uninspired. It sounds like a poor John Powell rip-off.
  • The song that fits

The Watchmen score is one of the best ones ive heard in recent years. Some tracks (especially "You Quit!") are very similar to the Blade Runner score, which i also love. Watchmen has been my favorite film so far this year, a big reason being the soundtrack and score. I consider myself pretty well versed on film composers, my favorites being Williams and Morricone, and now because of Watchmen, Tyler Bates
