One of those albums without a single mediocre song. I heard this in Barnes & Noble way-back when and instantly had to have it. I never buy albums like that but was very pleased with this. The masterpiece! Not only are all the songs great, each individual one is simply superb. One of my favorite albums of all time.

What kind of soul creates music like this?! Beth Orton must have a beautiful soul, and this album is a direct reflection of that beauty. Driving through the western mountains, listening to Central Reservation has taken me to places in my life and other worldly places that only a vehicle like this music can accomplish. There is still great beauty in this world, and I thank God Beth has shared some of her beauty with us.

I first heard Beth Orton with William Orbit, and when she started releasing albums/cds on her own, I had to buy them-I was never disappointed as the song writing, production values, and of course the singing was exquisite. When I played her cds, someone always asked who was that, and which cd would I recommend to them? This cd was my response, it never gets old when you hear it!

I too am disappointed this album has so few reviews--I also purchased this album when it was originally released. Great album. I also recommend Daybreaker's "Paris Train" and "Mount Washington"

Shocking this doesn't have more reviews. I purchased the CD when it originally came out and it always finds a way into the rotation. This is a low-key "folksie" affair, but it will grow on you given the chance...the songwriting takes time to take root. "Central Reservation (The Then Again Version)" is a solid, dare I say "pop," take on an already strong original, but "The Sweetest Decline" and "Feel To Believe" are the gems (for me). "Pass In Time" and "Blood Red River" are pretty strong too. Trying to think about this objectively I fear the :30 clips don't do the overall quality of the work justice...perhaps a leap of faith may be needed.
