Reviews

  • Excellent Value, Delightful Music!

It's too bad the first review is so negative--this album is eminently listenable. Not only is the music quality high but to receive four complete symphonies for $10 is almost unheard of these days. If you want to explore Bruckner beyond his more popular 9th, I would strongly recommend this album. You won't be disappointed!

Delighted I did not listen to the advice given in the negative reviews. Of course, I grew to musical maturity when Rozhdestvensky's recordings were making their way to the US. Always impressive. Yes, the brass have been slihghtly overmiked. Yes, the transfers have not been digitally enhanced to make these symphonies sound articial and are sometimes too bright. If you are as interested in vivid and quite moving interpretations as your are in sound quality which is not as bad as written), then this unbelievably cheap set is highly recommended. One caveat: Symphonies 1 and 2 are missing from vols. 1 and 2.
  • Bargain Prices--Nice Performances

As a treat to those who read the previous two reviews, I'll try to keep it grammatically correct with proper spelling. This is a great value with performances which are quite good. It's a great way to explore Bruckner's symphonies without a major financial commitment. The orchestra is excellent, and the production values are adequate. Without blinking, you could spend 40 to 60 dollars to buy the symphonies individually. You are definitely getting an excellent deal.

I did buy the Bruckner Symphonies and the musical quality is very much find. This version show an excelent style aproach.Personally I dislike some famous conductors view of Bruckner than this one. As a low price to know Bruckner Symphonies is a good choice.

This is an aweful recording. The brass is so far out of tune it is almost painful to listen to. The low brass have no sence of dynamics so when they play forte they drown out everything. All of the symphonys are lacking on a musical level. If it were not for the brass section I believe that this would be medeocre recording, but as it is now it is a waste of money.
