  • The most baroque fun for ten bucks!

If you like Bach, and if you like harpsichords (maybe even if you're not yet real fond of harpsichords), this double CD is a blast! If you're a fan of baroque, this is the most fun you can have for ten bucks. This chamber orchestra, whom I have come across before--doing Vivaldi-- is very good. I don't think they have the best studio, but the sound is good anyway. But the harpsichords! The ones they use are of the light/quick variety, rather than of the deep, resonant variety, and it works perfectly on these recordings where, quite frequently, two or three or four of them have to play off of one another--and where there are lots of allegros and prestos. Very well played. And with tremendous enthusiasm! These harpsichordists are really into it. I've only come across one better performance of the four-harpsichord concerto (which is one my all-time favorites), and that's only available on a record (the Time-Life box set "The Story Of Great Music/Baroque Era Concert"; marvelous, if you can find it. Try eBay.) Judging from comments I've read by artists who've played this piece, this might also be the most difficult-to-play piece of music ever written. Bravo!
  • Truly Great

This is a great album featuring great music by a great composer. The music is all well performed and very entertaining. As for the 3 star review below, ratings should not be based on personal preference, but on the quality of the individual album relative to others in its genre. The fact that the reviewer below prefers Beethoven to Bach (being in two completely different time periods) should not impact the rating of this album.
