Reviews

  • Poor quality sound + poor diction = don't buy this

Maybe they were having trouble hearing each other or maybe these guys need serious diction lessons, but either way I had trouble understanding some lines even when I already know the poem! The quality of the recording and the orchestra were also both subpar. All in all, mediocre, which is unfortunate because it's clear that these are talented singers. It seriously just sounds like they decided to record an early rehearsal. Unfortunate.

We're doing these songs in choir with the same director. Good to know that he knows what he's doing.
  • Reviewing "Frostiana" only

Agree with prior reviewer that this isn't a high quality recording. I heard one really rough edit and picked up some random noises (page turns?) in "Stopping By Woods.." The balance between voices and instruments isn't always great. Choral work is mostly pretty good, though, and if you are really looking for a recording of Frostiana, this is at least adequate.
  • The best recording of this work!!

This recording of Frostiana is by far the best available. The choir sings with great beauty and tone and they convey the text and feeling of the work extremely well. Randall Thompson would be very pleased. Great orchestration and the performance is really quite moving. A must for American Choral recording collections.

our choir has sung a few of these songs and they are truly amazing.
  • Rare recording, but not great

I bought this album because I don't believe any other recordings of the Frostiana pieces exist. However, this purchase was a mistake. This recording is mediocre at best. The choir is decent, but the orchestra (especially the strings) sound like a junior high group. The opening bars of "The Road Not Taken" are terribly out of tune, with muddy sounding lower strings. Bottom line: Don't buy this album unless you REALLY need a recording of Frostiana. If you are a choral director, please record this pieces so I can have a decent recording!
