There is no such thing as Christian "music" only Christian lyrics. And even then people automatically assume that Christian tracks have some unwritten prerequisite that God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit get a shout out in each track. Nothing could be further from the truth. For sake of using commonplace vernacluar, Christian music is about keeping it clean, giving praise when the artist feels compelled to do so in their writing, and finding a way to engage people in God's mercy and grace. One of my favorite gernre's of Christian music is that of Christian rap. LeCrae, Gospel Gangstaz, Tripp Lee, Tedashi and so many other really have tracks with very high production values and beats that will swell the doors of your car without all the expletives, innuendos, overt references and just plain sinfullness. So my brothers and sisters of all races, creeds and socio-economic backgrounds please keep it in check and understand that it's only the lyrical content that moves any kind of musical output from the grips of Satan into proximity with God's ear and God's message for the world. If Karen's album helps make Jesus famous, then so be it. Fabian Blache III Baton Rouge, LA

No matter what anyone says Karen is healed her music and her voice speaks for herself. She is so wonderfully talented into giving healing and inspiration through any situation or behalf your in. This whole complete album is so inspirational and knowing Karen she gives you the ability to believe that your life isn't over because you can make it with Jesus and he's full of 2nd chance's. But telling you from the heart I highly recommend this album it's so inspirational and a source for healing for a higher ground.
  • A Blessing to Me

I am so proud that I can finally get some gospel music that not only gets me in a spirit of praise, but ALSO worship. I may be young, but I know that the Holy SPirit is moving in these lyrics. I think its sad when people feel a "beat" makes a song secular or not. She's speaking the Word...and thank God for her message, because it's winning over souls. Love the songs, "It's not over" and "2nd Chance", beautiful melodies. Also loved "higher ground" and "brand new day". Enjoy, its worth it.

I must say when I first heard this cd, I was like okay... then came track 9 "2nd Chance" I had to stop what I was doing and replay that song over and over again. There is something special about that song, the message, the music, the vocals, the conviction... I mean I Thank God for giving me a 2nd Chance everyday. Here it is 2007 and the cd came out in August 28th 2002... 5 years later 2nd Chance is still in rotation its my morning inspiration since the first day I heard it... Simply Awesome! Thank You Karen!

Karen Clark Sheard is THE most versatile singer out of the Clark Sisters. She is able to excel in any genre simply because she is a risktaker. She is not afraid to take chances and that's exactly what she did with this album 2nd Chance. She finds something that interests her and she masters it! Coming fresh off her bed of affliction, Karen delivered what I consider a CLASSIC album. This album was the follow up to her still successful debut, Finally Karen. This album finds her in a more relaxed more contemporary setting where Karen undoubtedly EXCELLS! This is definitely my favorite album in her collection!!!!
  • If I Can't Say A Word

That is such a beautiful, simple song of praise and worship. I really hear the influence of Tweet and Missy on this CD, just like I hear Pajam/J. Moss and Donald Lawrence. Loving God is about the sincerity of the heart, and those that classify this CD as "secular" just because Missy produced a good portion of the songs are missing it altogether. I hear Karen's praise on this CD, and surprise surprise, I hear Missy and Tweet give praise too! Isn't it funny how God works? I do like the version of "It's Not Over" on her "It's Not Over" CD better than the version on this CD - "It's Not Over" is another great CD - GO COP THAT! OOPS - am I not a Christian because I used street/hip-hop language? Good grief!

Ms. Sheard has shown us once again her ability reach outside the box and recreate herself and remain true to her gospel roots. She has great range and vocal style. This CD shows us her soft side. We all know she can do those unique vocal runs; but she also teases us with a few jazz improvisations that gives life to some of her lyrics. Poetic. Lyrical. Spiritual. Uplifting. Provocation and worth listening to.
