Reviews

  • El Cantante Reaches Maturity

This is actually a surprising and incredible album. I guess the guy who wrote the earlier review can't really understand all the references that Calamaro and Litto Nebbia are throwing in. This is actually a disguised Calamaro-Nebbia album, in the vein of the Costello-Bacharach effort. Calamaro shows a wide array of talents for writing and performing in different styles (rock, folklore, bolero, Brazilian...). Those who only like Calamaro the hitmaker may be dissapointed after "Corazón en Venta" ends, but those open to his varied sensibilities will be blown away after a couple of listens of tracks as "El Compositor No Se Detiene", "El Palacio de las Flores" or the cover of "Contigo Aprendí." In the long run, this will probably be recognized as a watershed in Calamaro's already prolific career -- the definitive entrance into maturity as a composer and interpreter initiated with "El Cantante."

I'm a huge Calamaro fan but this record is not good at all. It has a couple of good songs but most of it sounds as a bad 80's soap soundtrack. Don't waste your money in it.
