WOW! I loved this album, and I am right back there when it first came out! Great musicianship that just picks you up and goes!! I am so happy with my purchase and am now going to jam it with the wattage in my cottage that I couldn't afford way back then. I highly recommend you put a Tom Scott Collection of your own back together and enjoy the groove!!! It will be fun to se if I still have the chops on the drums the way we used to play it. Thanks Tom & iTunes for making it still accessible!! All The Best! Jimmy Z
  • A Perfect, Shining Jewel

This album was part of the soundtrack of my high school senior year, 1974-75, along with Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic," and The Crusader's "Southern Comfort." (The next year at LSU we saw the L.A. Express play behind Joni Mitchell live! Damn, what a great time to be young!) Anyway, it has all stood the test of time, and sounds 10 times better sober! Like the other reviewers said, not a bad track in the lot—so incredibly tight and solid, with a deep soul groove that you just don't hear these days...

This is one of those rare and perfect albums - each and every cut is just as it should be. I first heard it in 1976 as a college freshman, wore out one vinyl copy, two cassette tapes and a cd. I just bought it on itunes and it is as great today as it was the first time. Truly a must have for every jazz/fusion lover. Thanks for finally getting this onto itunes.

I bought this lp when it first came out in 1974 and it always was one of my favorite lp's that was different than what I usually listened to. The musicianship is great and the tunes for an instrumental lp are surprisingly engaging. This is what jazz radio should sound like.

One of my all time favorites. I've loved it since first hearing it as a kid in the late 70s. I wore this vinyl out. Phenomenal songcrafting, incredible vibe, amazing musicianship, raw and smokin'. Anytime I put this on now it puts a huge smile on my face. An absolute must have for anyone into the hardcore roots of LA fusion. I'm glad the full album is now available on iTunes...Essential Listening.
  • Rhythm Section Rocks

Think what you will of "Mr. Scott," and the whole jazz/rock fusion era of the early mid 70s, the L.A. Express rhythm section of John Guerin, Max Bennett, Larry Nash, and Robben Ford sets TomCat apart from the typical wankery of that time. John Guerin in particular, with his signature single-headed tom sound, and impecable left foot hihat work, beautifully blends jazz and rock drumming grooves into an orignial style worthy of imitation. If you like the tasteful rhythm section playing on Joni Mitchell's mid 70s work, this album is a must!

The level of musicianship on this album makes it one of Tom Scott's best. First released in the late 70's, it has stood the test of time. There isn't a bad cut to be found, plus drummer John Guerin and guitarist Robben Ford make this a must listen for all drummers and guitar players. For those of you who have grown tired of the drum machine, soprano sax drivel offered up by some of todays jazz artists, pull the trigger and buy Tomcat, you'll be happy you did.
