  • Some Tracks Work Better Than Others

In general, it is great to get this album. Several of these suites are for scores that are not avalible in any other form on iTunes ("The Mysterians," "The Three Treasures," "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla," and "Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S."). John DeSentis does a great job conducting the Akira Ifukube scores, and I think the suite for "Rodan" sounds better than the original soundtrack recording. It is also wonderful to see Michiru Oshima helm her scores as well; her music is practically the defining sound to the millennium Godzilla series. However, I did not think the Masaru Sato scores were done that well, and a lot of their musical flair seemed to be muddled by the new performances. I also think the opera singer will take some time to get used too; her vocals for "The Three Treasures" suite sound amazing, but her vocals in the "Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S." suite are not like those of the original score. The vocals in the original "Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S." soundtrack were more subtle, where as for this suite, they are very direct; it doesn't sound bad, just different. All in all, this is a real treat for Godzilla fans and fans of Toho Special Effects films. Even with a few of the tracks not working as well as others, it is definitly worth the whole album purchase in my opinion.
