These guys of high self opinion are simply derivative. Also, another reviewer who did not like my thoughts on this band, which is derived from listening to them and a comment made by a band member regarding the late great innovator, Larry Coryell, accused me of being white as the reason I gave this a low rating...... seek professional help the race card has been overused and is frankly embarrassing.

Still one of the most original jazz combos on the scene. Their sound is always recognizable, innovative, and forward-thinking. Calling this band derivative is misplaced. Who sounded like The Bad Plus before The Bad Plus? I think Orrin Evans is a great fit for this combo, and I look forward to (hopefully) a long tenure-ship with him on the keys. I think he has a funkier, edgier sound. Less classical, more hip.
If you're undecided about buying this album, do it! You won't be disappointed.

I just heard the review on NPR, and I knew I had to have this album. I instantly connected with it.
Where's the joy?

The Abby Hoffman-esque subversive glee that fuels so much of the Bad Plus catalog is difficult, if not impossible, to find in this release. Not saying this is a bad thing -- Never Stop II is an impressive and enjoyable effort. It's simply surprising that the mirth may have departed with Mr. Iverson when all along it seemed Mr. King was the merry prankster.
