Victony Opens Up About the Impact of His Music on His Life

Nigerian musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, also known as Victony, attributes the success of his popular track ‘Soweto’ to a significant turning point in his musical journey. In a recent conversation with Sound City, Victony shared how the widespread recognition of ‘Soweto’ brought about new opportunities for him. He expressed:

“‘Soweto’ transformed my life. It enabled me to explore places I never thought I could reach this quickly. By the end of 2022, the song had already gained substantial traction, and to sustain that momentum in 2023, we decided to collaborate with Don Toliver and Rema on the remix. They are prominent figures, and their musical styles resonate well with the essence of ‘Soweto’.”

Victony also disclosed that he is currently pursuing his music career independently. Reports from Tooxclusive previously highlighted Victony’s journey, including undergoing multiple surgeries with more planned. In 2021, he survived a severe car accident that left him in a coma for four days. During an interview at the Afroland Festival for the Adesope Live segment, Victony shared insights on his ongoing recovery and his upcoming tour in North America. He mentioned:

“Truly, I am grateful, and it’s evident to the world. While I am still recuperating, I am able to continue performing. I am gearing up for my upcoming tour. Looking back at the past year and recent events, despite undergoing four surgeries and having one more lined up post-tour, I view it as a blessing. Despite frequent hospital visits, I take pain medication before going on stage, all while continuing to create music. I attribute this to God’s grace—it’s not my own doing. I am humbled by the abundant blessings bestowed upon me.”

In February 2023, Victony declared a temporary hiatus from the music scene to focus on his recovery following his third surgical procedure.
