Nigerian rapper, Vector, has called out certain executives in the hip-hop industry for prioritizing financial gains over the well-being of their artists. In a recent post, Vector criticized the ignorance within the genre and highlighted how he has supported fellow artists in the past, even when faced with disagreements.
He expressed his disappointment in the lack of reciprocity he has received from some individuals he has helped, suggesting that they would not extend the same support to him. Vector also pointed fingers at hip-hop executives in Nigeria for compromising their artists’ interests in pursuit of selfish gains.
Here is an excerpt from his post:
“I haven’t engaged in discussions about hip-hop for a while because it often involves uninformed individuals who fail to understand the unique artistic styles of different artists. However, hip-hop is a genre that confronts harsh realities.”
“Hip-hop should not tolerate individuals who rely on wealth and status to engage in lyrical battles. I have had conflicts with fellow rappers but have always supported their endeavors, even when they have not reciprocated the same level of support. It seems that some are hesitant to support me in return, perhaps out of fear.”
“There are numerous hip-hop executives who prioritize financial gain over the well-being of their artists. One individual, who is often praised, engages in questionable practices such as assisting labels in acquiring artists’ work at low costs, solely due to monetary benefits. These individuals may project toughness in their music, but in reality, they resemble politicians more than artists.”
“Are their tracks truly reflective of their character? The irony is evident.”
