Don Jazzy Reveals Past Struggles in Selling Mo’ Hits Records

“I wanted to sell Mo’hits records for 1 million naira” – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy, the music mogul, shared a personal anecdote about a challenging time in his career journey in a recent interview with Bounce Radio.

He reflected on a moment where he tried to sell Mo’ Hits Records, the record label he co-founded with D’banj, for a mere 1 million naira (approximately $2,200 USD). This tough period followed the success of their single “Tongolo,” which unfortunately did not bring in the financial rewards they had hoped for. Negotiations to sell the label to music executive Obi Asika did not materialize.

In 2024, a significant shift occurred in Don Jazzy’s story. He proudly announced the sale of a majority stake in his current label, Mavin Records, to global music powerhouse Universal Music Group for a remarkable $150 million.

Excitedly sharing the news on Instagram, Don Jazzy expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration as an opportunity to validate Mavin Records’ efforts and showcase African music on a global platform.

This partnership with UMG is anticipated to expand Mavin Records’ reach, introduce the label to new audiences, and enhance the global presence of African music. Don Jazzy assured fans that Mavin Records’ fundamental principles would remain intact as they venture into this new and thrilling chapter.
