Controversy Surrounding Portable’s Comments on #EndBadGovernance Protesters

Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, sparked outrage on social media after labeling protesters fighting against bad governance as “poor and lazy.” In a video that went viral, the street artist criticized the ongoing nationwide protests that began on August 1st. He rebuked those who pointed out his previous participation in the EndSARS protest, stating that his involvement was due to being impoverished at the time.

Portable claimed that a significant portion of protesters are unproductive and lacking motivation. He attributed their activism to unemployment and urged them to take charge of their own futures.

“You are protesting because you are jobless. Fight for yourself. A poor mindset is what drives protests.

Most of the protesters against bad governance are impoverished and lethargic individuals.”

His remarks triggered a wave of criticism from Nigerians, with many calling for his Instagram account to be suspended.
