Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has sparked controversy with his latest song, which has gained widespread attention for addressing recent hunger protests. The street-pop musician received criticism online for opting out of participating in the nationwide protests against hunger. It is reported that Portable faced a significant loss of over 100,000 Instagram followers due to his decision not to partake in the protests. It has been suggested that the singer, who once experienced poverty, now occupies a different financial position and therefore felt detached from the objectives of the protest.
Following the backlash, Portable has released a new track to clarify his position. In the song, he expresses his preference for pursuing a political career instead of engaging in protests, stating, “Instead of protesting, I go contest.”
He also made remarks on the broader political scene, acknowledging that Nigeria’s challenges did not originate with President Tinubu and asserting that he will not be swayed into undermining the nation.
