Bola Tinubu, the President, offered his sincere sympathies to the family of the late Onyeka Onwenu. In a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) on Wednesday, Tinubu recognized Onwenu’s diverse contributions as a musician, songwriter, actress, journalist, activist, and politician. Tinubu mourned the loss of the “Queen of Songs,” particularly praising her iconic rendition of ‘One Love’ in the 1990s, which promoted unity and concord.
Tinubu also reflected on Onwenu’s noteworthy artistic works, such as her memorable collaboration with King Sunny Ade on ‘Wait for Me,’ a campaign advocating for family planning in the 1980s. Tinubu commended the talented artist for her broad involvement in the arts, spreading happiness and cheer to many. He extended his sympathies to the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and her numerous admirers, acknowledging the deep sense of loss felt.
The President offered prayers for Onwenu’s soul, wishing her eternal peace and a place where music never fades, and there is eternal ‘Dancing in the Sun.’ He concluded by affirming that Onwenu’s legacy lives on through her timeless creations.
