In 2022, ZORA released her first full album, Z1. Now, the Minneapolis-based artist has announced her next project titled BELLAdona, along with the launch of the dynamic single “VIDEOGURL.”
According to ZORA, “VIDEOGURL” delves into themes such as the commercialization of femininity and critiques unrealistic beauty ideals and their impact on women.
The influences for BELLAdonna include classic horror films like Nosferatu and Ms. 45, as well as projects by Tyler, The Creator, particularly IGOR, and Beyoncé’s I Am… Sasha Fierce. Collaborators on the album include Destiny Spike, Kurt Cavalheiro, Myia Thornton, Jaemy Paris, and Duhgreatone.
Following her experiences with sexual assault, ZORA expresses that it has taken time to confront these issues. She remarks, “The lack of action from witnesses, along with understanding the vulnerability of trans individuals, prompted me to face my own past of abuse and exploitation. I crafted a narrative that’s both haunting and empowering in response.”
