Trevor Powers started 2024 with the release of the Youth Lagoon track “Football.” Following that, he introduced another song called “Lucy Takes A Picture” in May. Now, he has returned with a new piano-driven ballad titled “My Beautiful Girl.”
Powers shared insights about his inspiration:
There is a nearly abandoned town in Idaho, known as Idaho City, just a short drive from where I live. I visit frequently to enjoy the river, reflect, and spend time in solitude. On my last visit, I explored a cemetery, colloquially known as ‘Boothill’ because of the miners buried there. Amid the decay and shadows, I discovered a gravestone that simply read ‘My Beautiful Girl’—no name, no dates, just a message of love. This sparked my curiosity: who was this beautiful girl? That moment became a gateway for my creativity, and I captured the essence of that experience.
For me, songwriting is like receiving messages from a deeper source and putting them into words. There are times when I wake in the middle of the night, overwhelmed with thoughts that feel like they are hitting me hard. Often, I don’t fully grasp their meanings, and perhaps that’s not for me to understand. My role is simply to be attentive, receptive, and document them. If I neglect this task, those words will go to someone else who will appreciate them.
