Yola Unveils New Single “Future Enemies”
Yola is making her return with the release of “Future Enemies,” her first new track in three years, which also acts as the lead single for her upcoming EP My Way, set to drop in November.
This track features powerful synth elements and is described as an “anthem for acquaintances,” exploring the complexities of initial interactions with new people. Yola highlighted the essence of the song in a recent statement:
There comes a time when you recognize that a connection with someone isn’t going to work. If they haven’t caught on yet, you have a chance to slip away from their lives before they realize that it was never meant to be. It’s a relief to avoid accumulating negative experiences with someone you’ve never really clicked with. I prefer to focus my energy on relationships that are positive and fulfilling, especially because, as a woman of color with a diverse background living in a western context, I have to be careful and selective about my interactions in life, love, and work.
You can enjoy “Future Enemies” along with a live studio performance of the song below.
My Way will be released on November 15 through S-Curve.
