Lisa Walker and Chuck Cleaver, known for their roles in the Cincinnati rock band Wussy, have joined forces as Wussy Duo. They have unveiled a captivating new track titled “I Hear You Calling,” a mesmerizing cover of the Bill Fay classic. This release precedes an upcoming Wussy Duo tour featuring ticketed house shows.
Walker shared her thoughts on the song:
The first time I heard this song was on BBC Radio 6 by Gideon Coe, and it had an immediate emotional impact on me. It introduced me to the music of Bill Fay. I performed a cover of it during a livestream in 2020 with Chuck and Mark, and the song resonated with them too. It has since become a regular feature in our live Duo performances.
Our rendition pays homage to the original, recognizing its innate beauty and melancholic essence. The lyrics are strikingly simple yet profound, akin to an old hymn. To me, it holds a special place alongside other revered songs. We recorded this DIY version at my home setup and stayed true to our live interpretation. Chuck and I handle the guitars, with Chuck on piano, while I contribute vocals, rhythm, and some synth elements. I hope we do justice to this exquisite piece.
