The talented producer Christopher Clark, also known as Clark, delighted fans with his previous albums Sus Dog and Cave Dog. Thom Yorke collaborated as the executive producer for Sus Dog, leading Clark into the realm of film scoring. Clark recently composed the music for In Camera, a British independent film showcased at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic last year. This score is now set for release as a standalone album.
Written and directed by Naqqash Khalid, In Camera features Nabhaan Rizwan from Station Eleven, portraying a British actor grappling with continuous and distressing rejection. Clark’s score includes 20 tracks, with an eerie lead single titled “Green Breaking,” featuring alien-like pitch-shifted vocals. Clark shared his thoughts on the soundtrack:
Naqqash’s precise vision and openness to ideas made the creative process enjoyable and challenging. Experimentation was key to refining the sound palette, especially in creatively distorting vocals to align with the film’s tone. Initially planning to incorporate the cues, I found myself immersed in crafting new pieces that resonated with the film’s emotional essence. The album exudes a unique blend of subdued joy and dark euphoria.
In response, Khalid expressed:
From the start, I aimed to collaborate with an artist to create a soundtrack that enhances the film as an integral storytelling component rather than a mere supportive element. The soundtrack should intertwine with the visuals and characters, evolving into a distinct narrative layer. Making a film often involves articulating the ineffable in collaboration, shaping a shared language without words. This soundtrack emerges as a character itself, extending the film’s ambiance and inner essence. Clark uncovered something profound within the film, enriching its underlying themes.
