The Menzingers – “Second City”

The Menzingers, a vibrant punk rock band from Pennsylvania, unveiled their album Some Of It Was True last autumn and recently introduced a deluxe edition. The band has swiftly returned with a new track for a special occasion. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Chicago punk label Red Scare Industries, the Menzingers have contributed a song to the label’s latest compilation.

The compilation 20 Years Of Dreaming And Scheming is set for release next week and includes tracks from various bands including Dead To Me, the Falcon, Cobra Skulls, and the Holy Mess. The Menzingers’ track, “Second City,” is a melodious and energetic piece inspired by Red Scare Industries’ hometown, Chicago. Greg Barnett from the Menzingers shared his thoughts on the track:

“We spent a lot of time in Chicago during the formative years of the band, so when asked to contribute a song for Red Scare’s 20th anniversary, it felt right to pay homage to that era. ‘Second City’ is about a time and place that feels impossible to recreate now, and maybe that’s why I hold it so close to my heart. Chicago has been like a second home, so it felt pretty natural to write about.”

Another highlight from the Red Scare compilation is Laura Jane Grace & The Mississippi Medicals’ rendition of “Baby, Baby,” originally by Red Scare band the Sidekicks. Watch the video for this cover below.

The 20 Years Of Dreaming And Scheming compilation will be available on 9/6 through Red Scare Industries.
