The Beaches are back with new music following the success of their album Blame My Ex. This week’s release, “Jocelyn,” follows their previous single “Takes One To Know One” and presents a powerful, anthemic vibe infused with themes of self-doubt. The song explores the feeling of imposter syndrome, especially in light of their recent acclaim, as it references a particularly impressive fan—a woman with a PhD they discovered online.
Here’s how the band describes the song:
“The idea for our song ‘Jocelyn’ has an amusing backstory. We aimed to capture the sensation of feeling unworthy of the admiration that followed the success of ‘Blame My Ex.’ We’re just a group of ordinary girls and found it odd that people seemed to hold us in such high regard. During our writing session, our co-writer Lowell kept singing ‘Jocelyn,’ so we searched for fans with that name and found an amazing young woman. Ultimately, we wrote about her experience and our feelings of being uncomfortable with the praise.”
