Tetchy – “Mommy”

Song Review: Tetchy – “Mommy”

The band Tetchy, based in Brooklyn, is renowned for their energetic punk music and bold stage presence, particularly with Maggie Denning’s dynamic performances. Their latest release, the song “Mommy,” is a prime example of their unrestrained style.

Denning describes the track as a exploration of fantasy and empowerment, breaking free from societal norms and embracing desire without inhibition. The song challenges expectations and celebrates self-expression, especially in terms of sexuality and identity.

Despite its short duration of a minute and a half, “Mommy” packs a punch with its raw intensity. The lyrics touch on themes of self-acceptance and bodily autonomy, interspersed with Denning’s poignant reflections. The song seamlessly transitions between intense instrumentation and visceral screams, culminating in a powerful declaration of longing and self-assurance.

Aside from Denning on vocals and guitar, Tetchy comprises Dylan Lapointe on bass, Chris Krasnow on guitar and additional production, and Jesse French on drums, guitar, and vocals. The band is currently touring with Ekko Astral, the recent Band To Watch. Listen to “Mommy” below.
