Terry Gross Unveils New Album “Huge Improvement”
Collaborating with bassist Donny Newenhouse and drummer Phil Becker, Trans Am guitarist Phil Manley is part of the ownership team at El Studio in the Bay Area. The trio also forms the band Terry Gross, set to drop their second album, ironically named Huge Improvement, in September. Today, a sneak peek at the album with the lively and intense lead single “Sheepskin City,” inspired by a now-defunct business in San Francisco.
Becker shares his thoughts:
Sheepskin City was an enigmatic establishment located on a bustling corner in the Mission district of San Francisco. It always displayed the same worn-out sheepskins outside. It left us wondering if there was more to it. Passing by would invariably bring a smile to your face. The presence of Sheepskin City was a reassuring sight. Then, one day, after many years, it vanished!
Newenhouse chips in, “To us, it symbolized the future and the inevitable disappointment that technological progress may bring.” Manley also reflects, “These vicinity landmarks, like our studio El Studio, where we create, practice, and record, are significant to us. It’s our creative hub. We aimed to capture a fleeting moment. Nothing lasts forever.”
