The iconic ’80s new wave band Tears For Fears continues to be a significant presence in the music scene, appearing in both The Number Ones and The Alternative Number Ones charts. They are set to release a new live album titled Songs For A Nervous Planet, which will feature several new tracks. The band is currently facing criticism regarding the AI-generated cover art of the album, which may distract from the music itself. The lead single “The Girl That I Call Home” has already been released, along with another new track called “Astronaut.”
“Astronaut” explores feelings of alienation and yearning for a different place. The song showcases impressive falsetto vocals and culminates in a vibrant psychedelic climax. The accompanying video directed by Maschima emphasizes the AI art theme. Curt Smith shared his thoughts on the song in a recent press release:
“Astronaut” originated during the making of The Tipping Point. Realizing we would have more than one new song for this album, Roland sent me the initial recording of “Astronaut,” and I was reminded of how impactful it is. It serves as a refreshing pause, like a sorbet between dishes, offering a moment to breathe and drift away. Emotionally, it captures the story of someone who feels lost and dreams of being an astronaut in space—a sentiment many can relate to regarding feelings of isolation.
Check out “Astronaut” below.
Songs For A Nervous Planet will be released on October 25 via Concord.
