This fall, Stevie Nicks is set to perform on SNL, and she will debut a new song titled “The Lighthouse.” This marks her first release since her 2020 track “Show Them The Way.” Collaborating with Magnus Birgersson and Vincent Villuis, Nicks produced the song alongside Sheryl Crow and Dave Cobb, with Crow adding bass, electric guitar, and backing vocals. The track serves as a powerful message for women, especially following the Dobbs ruling that reversed Roe v. Wade. Nicks emphasizes urgency and loss in the lyrics: “Try to see the future, and get mad,” reminding listeners of what’s at stake.
Nicks shared her thoughts on the song:
After the overturning of Roe v. Wade, I found myself wondering what we could do collectively. For me, the answer was to create a song.
The writing process took time due to tour commitments. However, an impactful news segment sparked my inspiration, and I penned the song the following morning, recording it that same night on September 6, 2022.
This effort has been ongoing, and I’ve often reflected that this could be one of my most significant contributions. It’s about advocating for women and acknowledging the men who support them.
This song is an anthem.
