Sondre Lerche – Rediscovering “September Something”

Sondre Lerche – “September Something”

Sondre Lerche, the Norwegian indie-pop singer-songwriter, revisits his album Two Way Monologue on its 20th anniversary by releasing “September Something,” a lively and harmonic track he penned two decades ago, but only recently completed.

Reflecting on the song, Lerche shares in a press release his journey with “September Something,” how it started as a significant piece for Two Way Monologue but faced setbacks during recording and was left unfinished on his hard drive. Rediscovering it now, Lerche recalls the initial inspiration and subsequent disappointment. He then took on the task of refining the song, allowing his past and present selves to come together by collaborating with his former guitarist Kato Ådland. The song went through a lyrical transformation to align with Lerche’s original vision, coupled with the maturity of time and perspective, blending his 2002 vocals with his present-day voice.

The outro of “September Something” found a new life in the Dan In Real Life score, branching out from its humble beginnings. Lerche’s evolution in music and the journey of this track spanning over two decades is evident in the harmonious blend of old and new voices.
