Sea Lemon and Ben Gibbard Collaborate on the Mesmerizing Track “Crystals”

Sea Lemon – “Crystals” (Feat. Ben Gibbard)

These days, Ben Gibbard is quite active. He continues to perform with both Death Cab For Cutie and the Postal Service, including festival headlining events. Recently, he sang the National Anthem for the Mariners’ season opener, shared heartfelt moments in the Criterion Closet, and appeared in a track by Toro Y Moi titled “Hollywood.” Now, he has collaborated with Natalie Lew, who goes by Sea Lemon, on a fresh song.

Natalie and Ben first connected during a benefit concert in Seattle, where he proposed a duet. Today, Sea Lemon has unveiled “Crystals,” a vibrant fuzz-pop track reminiscent of the dreamy soundscapes Death Cab For Cutie was known for in the ’90s. Natalie shares her thoughts on the creation of the song:

“Crystals” emerged from my year-long exploration of “manifesting” in 2023, which left me feeling somewhat unfulfilled. I realized that this practice of seeking signs from nature or daily occurrences often serves more as a temporary escape rather than genuine fulfillment. Ben’s verse introduced a compelling perspective – instead of always striving for positivity, sometimes acknowledging and existing within the discomfort can also be a valid way to cope.

Having Ben contribute to this song is incredibly special for me; as a lifelong Death Cab fan, his lyrical style has been a major influence on my own songwriting journey.

Be sure to listen to the song below.

“Crystals” is now available on Luminelle.
