Artist SASAMI has unveiled her upcoming album titled Blood On The Silver Screen, following her critically acclaimed 2022 release, Squeeze. Since that time, she has collaborated with J Mascis on a fresh rendition of “Tried To Understand,” contributed to Winter’s track “Good,” co-produced King Tuff’s Smalltown Stardust, and introduced the single “Honeycrash,” set to feature on the new album. Today marks the release of the album’s first track, “Slugger,” accompanied by a lively music video produced by Crystalline Structures Studio.
Discussing “Slugger,” SASAMI explains, “I aimed to infuse a sense of playfulness and engage more with pop culture. Music evokes feelings in me—how I currently feel and how I wish to feel, as well as how I desire to move to it. That’s the beauty of music—its connection to culture, various musical styles, and the distinctive timbre of the artist’s voice.”
Additionally, SASAMI shared her inspirations behind her new album, co-produced with Jenn Decilveo and Rostam.
This project explores the artistry of pop songwriting, tapping into feelings of passion, obsession, and carefree joy. It embraces the tumultuous nature of love and deep devotion, touching on romanticism that can lead to self-destruction.
As someone who has often felt out of place, I found pop music didn’t resonate with me. Being a woman of color, there was always a push to create something enigmatic or cutting-edge, which led me to shy away from lighter themes.
My encounters with love and intimacy were heavily influenced by rigid definitions. This album represents my understanding of cultivating profound connections under a new light about what is valuable and empowering. We are still driven by passion.
For this album, I aimed for a full-fledged approach. I wanted to bravely express my emotional depth by crafting a vast pop record centered on love. My hope is that it instills a sense of empowerment and presence in listeners. It’s vital not to confine your true self.
